And, welcome to The Seasonal Soul.
May Day feels like a meaningful day to give birth to this new, beautiful, (kind of scary, and super vulnerable) endeavor.
May Day is a day of joyful celebration for all the new life exploding all around us – the flowers, and the birds, and the trees. It’s also a time to celebrate any new life growing within us –in our lives and in our spirits.
Do you have something new in your world to embrace and celebrate? A new journey unfolding? An idea coming to life? A new project you’re feeling enthusiastic about?
May Day is a day to feel cheerful and celebrate life and enjoy all the beauty and pleasures of being alive. Read all about the magic of mid-spring here.
For me, the new idea, the new life that I’m celebrating is this, The Seasonal Soul.
The Seasonal Soul is a magazine, and my blog, all about exploring the meaning and the magic of the seasons. You can read all about The Seasonal Soul and more about me here.
The magazine side of The Seasonal Soul is the articles and the information and the suggestions for ways to connect with seasons. This, my blog, is my own personal journey of putting those ideas, meditations and reflections into practice. It’s my journey toward developing a mindful, seasonal, spiritual practice. What does that look like? What does it feel like? We’ll explore that here, on my blog.
So today, May Day, it feels important to plan a few things, a few ways to really connect with the powerful mid-spring energy.
I believe these mid-season days, called cross-quarters, (as well as the Solstices and the Equinoxes, the days that mark the change in the seasons), I believe these days hold a special magic. And I try to plan special ways, alone and with my family, to pause and acknowledge these powerful seasonal days.
Here’s what I’m planning to celebrate May Day, to pause and just be mindful the mid-spring energy.
1. A Rune Reading
I have a Rune reading I like to do on important days – my birthday, New Year’s Day, the solstices and equinoxes.
First, I need to be right upfront and tell you I basically have no idea what I’m doing in terms of “readings” of any kind. But, I have this awesome set of hand-carved Runes my husband got me at a music festival in Georgia. And I have a book that tells you what the Runes mean. Also, it tells you how to do the simplest reading. And I will tell you, despite having basically no idea what I’m doing … the Runes always, always give me super interesting and pretty profound things to think about. Every time.
In the next couple weeks I’ll write a post and outline, in detail, the reading I do. So you can try it yourself. But the key is – it doesn’t have to be complicated. If you have a deck of tarot cards, try a simple reading. Usually the book that comes with the cards tells you how.
2. A Spring Craft with my Kids
The kids and I are going to finish their bird feeder project. And I plan to talk with them about mid-spring and what makes it meaningful.
Find the bird feeder instructions and mid-spring things to talk to your kids about here.
3. Date Night with My Man
I’m planning a special date night with my husband. Nothing complicated. No babysitter. It won’t cost us any money. Just a special night at home with a bottle of wine, our backgammon board, and maybe a candle or two.
Just something to be together. To get out of our routine. And, connect. And savor the rich, sexy energy of mid-spring. I wrote a whole article about this here.
What are you going to do to celebrate May Day and soak in some of that joyful, energizing, inspiring mid-spring energy? There’s several great ideas right here in The Seasonal Soul.
What are some of your ideas? I’d love to hear them. Please share them in the comments below. AND! Please come back and tell me about what special May Day activities, adventures, things you did.
